About The Institute

The Institute collaborates with public and private organizations, disseminates knowledge, and creates effective policies and programs to support healthy families and eliminate all forms of family violence. To fulfill this mission, the Institute performs the following:

  • Researching factors critical to supporting healthy families.
  • Studying family violence as it occurs in all groups, including adults, law enforcement, children, and the elderly.
  • Identifying and exploring related research domains, including supervised visitation, homelessness, co-parenting, protective factors against child abuse and child neglect, and poverty.
  • Disseminating the findings of this research at the local, state, national, and international levels.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of family violence interventions.
  • Supporting the development of innovative programs for reducing family violence.
  • Analyzing legislation addressing family violence issues.
  • Developing curricula that strengthen social work studies on family violence.
  • Providing continuing education and training opportunities to those working in agencies that provide interventions to families as well as faith-based groups and social service providers.
  • Serving as a regional clearinghouse on resources related to family violence.
  • Collaborating with the courts and community organizations on family violence concerns.
