Follow-Up
Follow-up visits can provide investigators with an opportunity to discuss the victim’s domestic violence circumstances. Investigators may determine if the victim was successful in getting help or in contacting referral sources. If the victim has not been able to get assistance, try to find out why and if possible, remove the road block. Remember to refer all victims to the local Domestic Violence Center as a first step. Please try to document any discussions or descriptions of domestic violence disclosed by the victim. These notes may become instrumental in helping the victim escape the abuser if brought into court.
