Purpose
This training module highlights the interface between domestic violence
victims and staff of community mental health centers. Staff barriers,
domestic violence advocates’ barriers, training barriers, and client barriers
are presented. A model is presented for utilization by community mental
health staff to identify and assess for the prevalence of domestic violence
experiences among clients.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training module, community mental health workers
will be able to:
1. Identify staff, client, setting,
training, and domestic violence advocates’ barriers which
impede the identification
and assessment of clients experiencing domestic violence.
2. Identify aspects of the mental health
system power and control wheel which seem to
endanger clients.
3. Discuss the use of RADAR protocol with
mental health clients.
4. Identify other roles which mental health
workers can employ to stop domestic violence
in their communities.
