Intervening with Clients Experiencing Domestic Violence
Problem-solving techniques are particularly important in working with clients who are experiencing domestic violence. Work with clients to identify their choices and resources, to support their right to choose. Problem-solving techniques may need to involve education about domestic violence, characteristics of perpetrators and impact of abuse experiences.

Another goal of providing counseling is to heal the impact of abuse. Mental health workers should focus on reducing symptomatology associated with abuse, parenting education, engaging in nonviolent relationships.
