or guide your assessment.
Signs the Substance
Abuse Counselor May Look For
- Physical
injuries (bruises, broken limbs).
- Medical history
of obtaining treatment for injuries from multiple medical providers.
- History of relapse
or non-compliance.
- Health problems
related to stress: headache, backache, chronic pain, gastrointestinal
problems, panic attacks.
- Suicidal ideations
or attempts.
- Pregnancy complications.
- Documented or reported
child abuse perpetrated by client’s partner.
- Client is forced
to sell drugs or prostitute herself for drugs.
- Client is prevented
by partner from obtaining substance abuse treatment or attending 12-step
or other self-help meetings.
