Myth:

Batterers are people who just can’t control their anger.

Fact: Batterers make choices throughout abusive episodes. Although anger may have begun at work or in traffic, batterers usually do not take it out on their boss or other motorists – they take the anger home. Batterers choose who, when, where, which tactics to use, how long or how much, how severe, when to stop, and whether the victim gets away.
