Summary
Whether termed elder abuse or elder domestic violence, many seniors live in constant fear of abusers. Any disability, including the aging process, makes a victim more vulnerable and less able to defend themselves. Elder victims of domestic violence seeking to end the abuse, encounter a variety of barriers specific to their generation in addition to those met by their younger counterparts.

Fortunately, domestic violence advocates and professionals have become aware of the plight of the elder victims, who after so many years of abuse might be dubbed survivors! New accommodations and outreach programs for elder victims are continually being developed, assisting more and more elders to overcome their unique barriers to leaving. Although it is a difficult road to travel, elders can indeed escape their violent homes and live peaceful lives.
