Purpose
This training module will highlight the unique issues facing elder
victims of domestic violence. Although they suffer the same types of abuse
as their younger counterparts, elder victims are vulnerable in many additional
ways, making it even more difficult for them to leave a violent home.
Throughout this manual, “Elders” are defined as men and women aged 60
and up.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training module, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the difference between elder

2. Identify the different types of batterers
abusing elders.
3. Discuss unique barriers to leaving faced
by elder victims of domestic violence.
