Summary
For too long, it was assumed that children would not be affected by violence between their parents. However, research has recognized the detrimental impact to children who are exposed to violence in their homes and four theories have been developed relating to this impact.
 

 
Domestic violence in the home can also have serious effects on pregnant women and their unborn fetuses. Psychological and emotional abuse can cause as much damage, if not more damage, than physical violence. Therefore, children who are not physically abused are still in grave danger if violence between their parents is present.
