Include routine use of screening tools for identification of domestic violence. Use assessment tools to determine degree of violence client is experiencing.

Give brochures, hotline numbers, and information on safety planning to clients who are experiencing domestic violence.

Refer clients to appropriate resource dealing with their most immediate need: law enforcement, domestic violence shelter, court, etc.

Refer clients with domestic violence injuries to health professionals with knowledge of domestic violence.

When client appears for future WIC or health appointments, follow-up to ensure victim is able to utilize community resources.

Follow your County Health Department policy concerning documentation of domestic violence in client’s record.
